FOTA wins, Max Mosley’s out and F1 looks forward to a promising future.

FOTA finally won its war with the FIA at the World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris today. FOTA will also enjoy a double celebration after more or less ousting FIA president Max Mosley. After enduring months of politics, what does the future have in store for F1?

After months of posturing, accusations, threats and counter threats, FOTA have emerged victorious. With all their wishes granted by the World Motor Sport Council, the FOTA teams will remain in F1. Basically the FOTA got what they wanted while Max Mosley gets to see out his final term.

Cutting costs down to early 90’s levels within two years has replaced the budget cap. The teams under this new agreement will provide technical assistance to the new entries. FOTA has also agreed to sign a new Concorde agreement within two years, meaning F1 keep its 2009 regulations till then.

Max Mosley the man who has held the reigns of the FIA for over 15 years is to take a back seat. Mosley will take a back seat with immediate effect and will not stand for reelection when his term ends in October. This looks more like Mosley has been allowed to bow out gracefully by quietly serving the remainder of his term as FIA president.

With the imminent departure of Max Mosley the future of F1 looks incredibly bright. The cost cutting measures being implemented put F1 on a very sound footing financially. Mosley’s departure means an end to knee jerk reactionary regulations and divisive politics that have characterized Mosley’s rule. .

Today every F1 fan wherever they are have breathed a deep and long awaited sigh of relief. And finally after what seems like an eternity, F1’s focus will return to the track were it belongs. But the best thing to happen to F1 this momentous day is no doubt the imminent departure of current FIA president Max Mosley.
